The iGPU supports DirectX 12 and, as far as the capabilities go, is pretty much identical to UHD Graphics 520, UHD Graphics 615, HD Graphics 500 and other iGPUs with similar names from Apollo Lake, Whiskey Lake, Amber Lake, Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake, Skylake series CPUs. The UHD Graphics 600 (Gemini Lake) is based on Intel's Generation 9 architecture. They are only good for basic tasks such as word processing and web browsing with few tabs open. The single-thread performance of Gemini Lake Refresh processors is nothing to write home about. An N4120, a quad-core Celeron with a similar name, will easily leave the dual-core N4020 behind in multi-threaded tasks, while single-core performance is essentially the same between the two as their Boost clock speeds are nearly identical. The Celeron supports up to 8 USB 3.0 ports and 2 SATA III ports.Īn N4020 is somewhat faster than the outgoing Celeron N4000 due to 200 MHz higher Boost clock speed of the former. Still, Gemini Lake Refresh series processors are not designed to compete with full-featured Core CPUs such as a Core m3-8100Y.Īn N4020 has 6 PCI-Express 2.0 lanes and Wi-Fi 5 support is partially built into the CPU. It features an enlarged 4 MB L2 cache for a marginally higher IPC compared to Gemini Lake's Goldmont. The processor architecture is still called Goldmont Plus. The SoC is not replaceable as it is supposed to be soldered to the motherboard. Other than the two CPU cores, the chip also features a DirectX 12 capable UHD Graphics series iGPU as well as a DDR4/LPDDR4 memory controller (dual-channel, up to 2400 MHz). Just like the Apollo Lake models such as the N3350, an N4020 is manufactured on a 14 nm process with FinFETs but with slightly improved processor cores, double the amount of L2 cache, all in a smaller package. Compared to the predecessor, the Celeron N4000, the newer model offers a 200 MHz higher Boost clock. The Celeron was announced in Q4 2019 and its CPU cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.8 GHz. The Intel Celeron N4020 is an entry-level dual-core SoC of the Gemini Lake Refresh product family designed for affordable laptops and mini-PCs. Intel Celeron N4020 ► remove from comparison The chip can therefore be cooled passively in theory, but SKUs with fans are possible as well. Similar to the predecessor, Intel specifies the TDP with 6 Watts (SDP 4.8 Watts – Scenario Design Power). The chip also includes an advanced video engine with hardware support for the playback of VP9 and H.265 material (8-bit color-depth). Equipped with 18 EUs and a clock of up to 750 MHz, the performance should be roughly on par with the older HD Graphics 5300 and HD Graphics 505 (Apollo Lake). The UHD Graphics 605 (Gemini Lake) is based on Intel's Gen9 architecture, which supports DirectX 12 and is also used for the Kaby Lake / Skylake / Apollo Lake graphics adapters (like HD Graphics 520). Still for basic tasks like office suits, webbrowsing with moderate multitasking the processor performance should be fine. Compared to the more expensive Core Y processors, especially the single thread performance is much lower in the Gemini Lake based SoCs. The CPU performance of the Pentium Silver N5030 is thanks to the 400 MHz higher boost clock clearly faster than the old Silver N5000. Compared to the older Goldmont cores in Apollo Lake, they feature an increased level 2 cache (to 4 MB). That means the per-clock-performance should be a bit better, but not near the Core CPUs like Kaby Lake Y.
The SoC is not replaceable as it is directly soldered to the mainboard. Besides four CPU cores, the chip also includes a DirectX 12 capable GPU as well as a DDR4/LPDDR4 memory controller (dual-channel, up to 2400 MHz). The 5030 is the refresh of the older Pentium 5000 and offers a 400 MHz higher Boost clock. Similar to the Apollo Lake predecessor, the chip is manufactured in a 14 nm process with FinFETs but offers slightly improved processor cores, double the amount of L2 cache, a smaller package, a better GPU architecture and a partly integrated WiFi support. It runs at 1.1-3.1 GHz (Single Core Burst) and is based on the Gemini Lake platform. The Intel Pentium Silver N5030 is a quad-core SoC primarily for inexpensive notebooks and was announced late 2019. With an efficient 12nm manufacturing process, the Ryzen 5 3400G has better thermals.Intel Pentium Silver N5030 ► remove from comparison The Core i5-9400 comes with an excellent boost clock speed for gaming and single-thread tasks. Having an excellent base clock speed of 3.7GHz helps the Ryzen 5 3400G achieve better performance in most applications. The Core i5-9400 is superior in multi-tasking performance against the Ryzen 5 3400G.
